Diskeeper 2009 give away.....

One program I've used for the last few years to eradicate problems caused by disk fragmentation such as system slows down, crashes, freezes or even total system failure is Diskeeper.

You may or may not know that when you save a file on a computer it saves it on your disk in hundreds of pieces. When you retrieve the file the writer head has to find the hundreds of pieces and put them together again.

This causes issues. Diskeeper 2009 works in the background using few PC resources to eradicate and fix these issues.

So....... due to our good relationship with the Diskeeper Corporation we have 5 copies of the application to give away to you our users.

If my memory is good, Diskeeper is the first defragment tool appeared on Windows (NT), many years ago !!! So a lot of experience on the subject ...

I have used the last free version of Diskkeeper on an old Windows 2000 box for years without any problems. If I remember to run then other Defrag programs don't find much to do. The only thing missing from my version is the scheduler, so here's hoping for one of the five so I can set it and forget it.

Like the above, I've used an older version of Diskeeper on previous computers and it works well. No hoo-haa and no obvious effects short term, but the PC just runs better due to the contiguity of the files on disk.

Prompted by this article I've now installed the trial version and it is very easy to use. No scheduling needed now as it runs in real time stopping fragmentation happening rather than fixing it in batches after it's happened. No obvious detriment to system performance while running either, so a real 'thumbs-up'
